The MEDIA 2007 programme (2007-2013) is the fourth multi-annual programme since 1991 (previous programmes) and has a budget of € 755 million. 
The programme aims to:
    - to strive for a stronger European audiovisual sector, reflecting and respecting Europe’s cultural identity and heritage,
    - to increase the circulation of European audiovisual works inside and outside the European Union,
    - to strengthen the competitiveness of the European audiovisual sector by facilitating access to financing and promoting use of digital technologies.

MEDIA 2007 is divided into five action lines:
    - training of professionals
    - development  of production projects and companies, 
    - distribution of cinematographic works and audiovisual programmes,
    - promotion of cinematographic works and audiovisual programmes, including the support for film festivals,
    - new technologies/pilot projects.

The European Union adopted a new MEDIA Mundus programme, a broad international cooperation programme for the audiovisual industry to strengthen cultural and commercial relations between Europe's film industry and film-makers of third countries. The EU will provide €15 million of funding from 2011-2013 for projects submitted by audiovisual professionals from Europe and from third countries. The new MEDIA Mundus programme will capitalise on this growing interest and the opportunities offered by global cooperation of the audiovisual industry. It will increase consumer choice by bringing more culturally diverse products to European and international markets and will create new business opportunities for audiovisual professionals from Europe and around the globe.
The first call for proposals is likely to be published in the second half of 2010.

The MEDIA Desk Lithuania is an information office of the MEDIA 2007 programme based in Vilnius. Its central aim is to inform Lithuanian audiovisual professionals about support opportunities related to the MEDIA 2007 programme, various funding strands, general EU audiovisual policy and other relevant information on the sector. The MEDIA Desk Lithuania also has a technical assistance role in helping audiovisual industry operators with applications for the MEDIA support and a networking role in facilitating European co-production. In addition, the MEDIA Desk Lithuania encourages participation in training courses, festivals and markets and supports application by providing individual consultations and organizing informational seminars and training events.
